Zabrina Branning, 11/22/16

Today's class was based on a small experiment, though it became a competition, between four groups to succeed to follow guidelines with certain items that they were given and what they could gain in their community to show capitalism. I was a part of Group 1 and we succeeded to create a sufficient shelter, food, literature or education, and a material; a ring, and we were the first group to finish successfully.

Each group found different difficulties throughout the activity. For example, our group was given a majority of the materials we needed to complete the tasks, but we still needed dotted paper and wavy paper, so we had to work to make different trades with different groups until we received the item that we needed. Aside from the materials we were given, like a glue stick, a pen, blank paper, lined paper, wood paper, and a ruler, there was supplies like paper clips that were offered to us several times, but we did not need them to complete the tasks, as we had the glue to hold items together. I was the voice of reason, arguing why we needed certain things over others, and questioning the groups actions against our guidelines. When the materials were laid out and we had a plan, we began to work together and contrive different important aspects needed for a successful community. Also, when it came down to resources, we kept as much of each material as we could until we were sure that everything we had met the guidelines, even though it meant we had to start turning down the other communities to exchange the items.

Our strategy, though we did get slightly greedy, ended up helping us be successful. We kept a close eye on what we were getting rid of in exchange for things that we 'needed' not wanted. We traded for items that led us to success, and we worked together to attain success (Bagels from Mr. Rivers). The experiment showed capitalism through the different community's efforts to trade and profit off of others towards success.
